Ireland 2017

Ireland May 2017!

After two years of traveling in North America, we have come abroad again for this trip to magical Ireland.

In O’Hare, on our way!

Travel can be exhausting, but we are older and wiser now and understand that life is made up of choices, which should and did include hiring a car and a driver after 10+ hours on a plane and being driven across a country!

Our capable and informative driver, Laura, with VIP Chauffeur, who carried us from the east coast of the Dublin Airport to the west coast of the Shannon Airport, where we then rented a car.

Our first castle sighting, which we saw along the way with Laura:

This is Bunratty Castle. They have period dinners and events here. We decided to skip that, but the castle itself is beautiful.

After picking up our car at the Shannon Airport, we managed to navigate the whole thing about driving on the left side of the road, with the wheel on the right. And we got a Ford!! It was a little harrowing, because the roads are so narrow. As the passenger, it feels as thought you are riding in the grass, hitting signs and poles. As the driver, it feels as though there is NO ROOM to pass a car. I wanted to come to a complete stop to let others pass by. We made it to our wonderful hotel, the Armada in Milltown Malby, very close to Quilty and a short drive from Kilkee and the Kilkee Cliffs, which we walked — and it was breathtaking! Photos of that below. What a wonderful first day!

The view from our hotel room at the Armada!!

Our walk along Kilkee Cliffs was breathtaking and especially pleasant after being on planes and in cars for so long!

Kilkee Cliffs are definitely along the road less traveled by tourists. Stunning vistas — without all the people and tour buses!

After a refreshing and invigorating walk, we returned for some crispy wine and beer and the first food in 24 hours. Delicious! All in all, a very satisfying first day!
