Why Don't We Take More Photos?!

We just combined our photos from yesterday into a shared Google Photos album…and we had a grand total of 12. What in the world is wrong with us? It’s true that one of us has been behind the wheel, and it’s frowned upon to be taking photos while driving, especially on these roads.

These roads are narrow with lots of blind curves. Not as scary as Ireland last year, but scary nonetheless.

Oh but the drives are breathtaking. Our house is a little out of the main perched villages region. What separates us and places like Gordes, Menerbes and other places mentioned in the Rick Steves guide is a mountain. A really big mountain with a super narrow road. Fortunately, we’ve only passed a few cars…well…passed isn’t the correct word. We stop in the road and they pass us.

So, yesterday we went to Gorges de Verdon, which is described as the Grand Canyon of France. It lived up to that description. It was so beautiful. The color of the water in the photos below has not been altered. The cliffs, which we did not photograph, were awe inspiring.

We also visited the village of Moustiers St Marie, and it was ancient with twisting narrow streets and a waterfall running through the middle.

On the drive over and back we saw fields of sunflowers, still bright yellow but clearly at the end of their season. Everywhere we looked, we saw grape vineyards…dark purple, light purple, green. Peach trees filled lots of acres, though the peaches had been picked, and loaded pear trees are still waiting to be harvested.

The produce we’ve purchased and cooked has been exceptional, particularly the tomatoes. We have a large pan slow roasting in the oven now with garlic and olive oil.

Provence has lived up to every promise, every expectation.

Everywhere we look, the landscapes are gorgeous. This is probably the worst picture we have the landscape…but that’s because we only took two. We’re fixing that moving forward.
There were hundreds of kayaks and paddle boats on this section of the Gorges de Verdon

The lake at the gorge was amazing
